Originally the “Osteria Scudo di Francia”, it is an illustrious survivor of a hundred taverns that were once dotted all over Verona, where corporations and trade members would meet.Journalists from the Arena and the Gazzettino would come, and
local dialect poets were drawn in by Berto Barbarani, the quintessential poet of Verona. With its “quinti” and “goti” of wine, it attracted the painters Dall’Oca Bianca and Umberto Boccioni. Acquired and protected since 2010 by the Associazione Famiglie Storiche, whose members include leading wineries in Valpolicella, it has maintained its beautiful period interiors and traditional recipes.
