Aglorious, historic restaurant, close to the arcade of Romeo’s
house and to Juliet’s balcony, it has been run by the same family
for five generations. The first gas contract, signed by Giuseppe
Gioco in 1879, is preserved under glass. Immortal artists like
Hemingway, the poet Barbarani and the painter Dall’Oca
Bianca have all enjoyed a meal here. D’Annunzio recited his
poems to the sound of Valpolicella wine and the Nobel laureate
Brodsky enjoyed his fish in the old-fashioned style. Maria Callas
was at home here. An elegant Liberty-style atmosphere with
early twentieth-century panelling.
