Bar pastry-shop Converso

Pasticceria Converso Via Vittorio Emanuele 199, 12042 Bra (CN)

Ristorante Buca di San Francesco

Dal 1929

Created by the Conversos, the ancient family of pastry-makers who, during the Belle Époque, took their art to the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Two elegant rooms with vaulted ceilings – one a café, the other a pastry-shop – in an exquisite, stylised Liberty style. The windows, panelling, counter, mirrors, tables, ornamentation and scripts are all original. In 1909 it put on a reception for the Savoys, who had come to open a school. Umberto of Savoy came in 1940 and the painters Vellan and Spazzapan, and the writers Arpino and Fenoglio were regulars. A centre of culture, it has promoted the rediscovery of local historical establishments. Superb pastries and marrons glacés.
