A fairy-tale Liberty-style masterpiece by the architect Ernesto
Basile. The hall frescoed by E. De Maria Von Bergler is a dream, as
are the dining room, the wooden furnishings and decorations by
Golia-Ducrot (the company that made the Liberty-style furnishings
of the Italian parliament), the chandeliers by Caraffa, ceramics by
Florio, and wrought iron by Salvatore Martorella. Originally a
nursing home for the elite, with a park overlooking the sea, it was
turned into a luxury hotel by Ignazio Florio – creator of the Targa
Florio race. Guests have included Kaiser Wilhelm II, the Tsar of
Russia and Edward VII of England.
