Locanda del Cerriglio Restaurant

Locanda del Cerriglio, Via del Cerriglio, Napoli, NA, Italia

Ristorante Locanda del Cerriglio

Dal 1288

When Caravaggio left this famous tavern in the port of Naples,
after dinner on 24 October 1609, he was attacked and scarred.
Giambattista Basile, author of “Pentamerone”, would be found amid the good food, wine and women of easy virtues, as would the alchemist Giambattista Della Porta, Giulio Cesare Cortese, author of “Il Cerriglio ‘ncantato”, and Benedetto Croce. Closed after the great urban renewal of Naples in 1885 and used as a warehouse, it reopened in 2014 after a decade-long restoration, still with the ancient hall, the vaulted cellar, the little rooms for cultural events on the upper floor, and with traditional recipes.
