Three shops, all original. The 1840 pastry-shop, with its painted
furniture, is in Caruggio XXV Aprile, Sestri Levante; the 1900 one,
with shellac-varnished pitch-pine furniture, a Liberty-style mirror
and Art Nouveau Baccarat vases, is in Via Dante. The statues of
the Four Seasons in the window were ordered from Paris by
grandma Emilia Costa, who designed the shop. The pastry shop
in Riva Trigoso, designed by the architect Giulio Rossignotti,
grandpa Giacomo’s brother, dates from 1929. Custards and
pastries, cannoli and countless torroni and torroncini entranced
Roosevelt, Garbo and Marconi. Six generations.
