From here, King Humbert I watched a fireworks display on the
Piazzale Michelangelo in 1890. And here D.H. Lawrence wrote parts
of his “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” in 1926. Vasco Pratolini gave it
immortality his “Tales of Poor Lovers”. On the Arno embankment,
the fabulous restoration of the sumptuous architecture beautifully
highlights the original pieces, which include nineteenth-century
Murano appliques and chandeliers, a superb island bar, a large
chandelier designed by Seguso and an enormous woodcut on gold
leaf by Giacomelli of Venice. A rare collection of memorabilia and
a pool on the roof with a gorgeous view of Florence.
