When it was still the Ristorante Biaggi, Giuseppe Mazzini plotted against Carlo Alberto and may also have founded his “Giovane Italia” here. Carlo Cattaneo sought refuge here after the Milan insurrection. On 3 March 1945, when it had become the Ristorante Bianchi, Baron Parrilli convinced the German Colonel Dollmann to have the SS surrender to the Americans, preventing them from carrying out a terrible scorched-earth retreat from Italy. The city’s elegant salon, still with its stunning Liberty-style skylights, its guests have included King Vittorio Emanuele, the Aga Khan, Clark Gable and Sofia Loren.
